MATT WALKER AND ASHLEY DAVIES

Released on September 5th, 2005 on Stovepipe Records

Matt Walker - guitars, lap steel, harmonica, vocals

Ashley Davies - drums, vocals

Digipak

CD-ROM component produced by Justin Heitman

The Duo is back in town. This will be the first album where it's just the two of us in the studio playing live since I Listen to the Night in 1997. Something was arced up deep down between me and ash way back when, and we both knew it wasn’t going to quit. Matt

the duo is at it's best when it is working from emotion and feeling. be it song, instrumental or ballad...me and matt might go off on tangents, but the essential part, for me, the heart and soul of whatever you do, where ever the music might go, is the groove, the rhythm. It’s got to make you feel good. Ash

A full-on night at the ‘Conti’, a venue now gone and sadly missed by Melbourne punters. The place was like our second home at the time. For Ashley and me it was always a thrill to perform there. The master tapes for this recording are missing but we hope to find them to re-present a fuller record of the occasion.  Matt

This is a curious little disc with a great live feel. ‘Schoolgirl’ is a blues song that Ashley and I would often perform at our shows around this time, while ‘Out of Control’ was a one off, never to be played again. If I get time one of these days I’ll teach myself how to play it again.  Matt

This cd is already something of a collector's item - sometimes popping up at Rare Records. We have 150 copies of the original pressing left and they are available signed for $14 each including GST, packaging and postage. This is available only by mail order direct from Stovepipe Records

BEST AUSTRALIAN MALE ARTIST / BEST AUSTRALIAN WORLD MUSIC

I am so excited to announce that Stovepipe Records has re- issued our first studio album, "I Listen to the Night" in June. Ashley and I have been playing music together for years now, but this is where it started. Well not really, it all started with us playing in bars at 3am, but this is when we made our stamp - our first album. It was this album that got our asses overseas. To play in bars at 3am. Matt

MATT AND ASHLEY HAVE OTHER MUSICAL PROJECTS AS WELL AS THEIR DUO RECORDINGS - SEE BELOW

ASHLEY DAVIES

MUSCLE DRUM MUSIC 2

Released 2008 on There's Life Records

Produced by Ashley Davies Muscle Drum Music Volume Two sees Ash stretch out on the same rhythm and musical themes he first hit on with MDM Vol 1.

Ash is still playing the drums, guitars, harps and doing the vocals but for this recording he called on some friends to add their musical expertise to the muscle drum music sound.

Ross Irwin - Cat Empire – (trumpet)
Jake Mason - Cookin on Three Burners – (Hammond, piano)
Craig Woodward – Headbelly Buzzard - (banjo, fiddle).

Shane O’Mara, who’s played and produced with the best of them (Tim Rogers, The Audreys, Lisa Miller), recorded and mixed the album and plays bass on one of the tracks.

Like Volume One, Muscle Drum Music Volume Two is an album to play loud and get physical with the music.

"I love the rhythm smiths," Davies says of his guitar heroes, "Keith Richards, John Lee Hooker and most of all, Malcolm Young. I love AC/DC, and I dig Malcolm just as much as Angus!"

Muscle Drum Music reveals Davies as a many-faceted musician, but this multi-dimensioned album is only one expression of his ever-evolving musical life. "This is not the whole me," Davies points out. "It's just part of what I do."

Listening instructions: shake the stress outta your muscles, roll up the carpet, and play LOUD
