Matt's News

G’day

Well… Feb is busy.

Last week end I played the last show with Crystal Thomas and the Flowers of Evil. Half the band are disappearing into the unknown while the rest of us stay here in it…? Happy travels!

Sat night I played at Oscar's in Belgrave. A little joint that specialises in fancy beers (Don’t get your amber ales mixed up with your pilseners or you will lose any respect the bar man may have had for you).

I played one set solo, which managed to get past the barricade of beer enough to tickle the ears of some folk and then brought on my buddys Grant Cummerford and Ruben Dwyer to play out the rest of the night. It was pretty rough and ready… I wouldn’t have it any other way. I play there again in a couple of weeks.

Anyone ever been to the Wittlesea Country Music Festival? If not I’ll let you know what it’s like because I’ll be playing there this Fri night. Check out my gig guide for all details.

 ......................................

The Duo also has a few cool shows coming up including this Thursday night at The Retreat with special guest Davey Lane playing a solo set.

And later in the month we play as part of the QV Summer Concert Series and the Melbourne Zoo Twilight Series.

 ......................................

Broderick Smith also has a show on Feb 25 at Wellers in Kangaroo Ground. Brod and the band will be showcasing his new album, Unknown Country as well as revisiting some old favourites. And this weekend we’ll be up in Castlemaine somewhere shooting a film clip for Unknown Country.

My friends from Big Low will be touring Victoria in March too. More details to come, don't miss 'em! We'll be seeing Dan Tuffy (songs, acoustic & electric guitars, banjo bass, vocals) and Marc Constandse (bandoneon, percussion incl. darabuka, morrocan castinettes, gembir, cajon, chains and basically anything that rattles and makes a cool noise)

Ashley's News

The JVG Guitar Method will launch their debut CD 'Dig My Method' at the Lomond Hotel on Saturday 20th Feb. Free to get in. CDs will be on sale.

Jon von Goes is better know as a 3RRR broadcaster who presents the JVG Radio Method on Sunday afternoons between 2 and 4.

“Dig my Radio Method, dig my Guitar Method”.

Crucial to the JVG Guitar Method is the warning – “Don’t do this on your own”. For Jon it’s all about the band.

“All I have to do is go twang, pluck and these blokes make it all purr and explode at the same time – twang, pluck, purr, explode.”

These blokes - Mark Ferrie, Dale Lindrea, Ashley Davies – are the shit.

The Guitar Method are all about getting to the bottom of what really goes on. The sound of yesterday today in a world where the rhythm is relentless and the ordinary is extraordinary.

The Guitar Method comprises:

JVG  Guitar and vocals.

Mark Ferrie on guitar and vocals from the RocKwiz Orkestra, the Mercurials, the Models, the Sacred Cowboys, and many more, understands the Method more than anyone. Mark understands many things a lot more than most.

Dale Lindrea from the Vanguards plays the bass quite unlike anyone, like a maestro from another planet in another time. The pulse of the Method, the throb of the Method. Can sing a bit too.

Ashley Davies is the drummer – full stop, end of story.

also i will be performing my muscle drum music show down at apollo bay this year. it combines all the elements that i love about dancing, movies, theatre and comedy...i wont be doing all those things, but they will be in the show to the music of muscle drum music volumes 1 and 2. hope to see you there

catch you at the duo gigs -

Ash
